The house was originally built as a single family residence in 1865 by a prominent Welles family. There were several Welles family residences in Glastonbury during the mid-to-late 1800’s including Gideon Welles, United States Secretary of the Navy (during President Abraham Lincoln & Andrew Johnson’s administrations). As the years proceeded it became an inn for sailors (shipbuilders) to reside, while they built ships nearby at the NAP Brothers building on Naubuc Avenue. The original staircase in the house were built by shipbuilders. They were known for their craftsmanship & attention to detail, so it's no surprise that the staircase was well-made. In the early days of Glastonbury (in the 1600s) Naubuc Avenue was the original main street in the town, which travels along the Connecticut River. The house is located in a National Historic District entitled “Curtisville”. The house was quality built & is currently over 160 years old.

Future Plans...
Corrine Crocker & William Luby have mutually invested in the purchase of the house in October of 2007. They continued to invest in major renovations including partial demolition and gutting the entire interior to create a state-of-the-art modern building. Retaining the original framing timbers, and decided to provide new plumbing, electrical, heating and cooling throughout the building. It proved to be a labor of Love! They have changed the layout of the main floor (to make it feel more open) and added on a two-story addition to the back of the house to accommodate a nearly 750 square foot open dining room. The room can seat up to 75 people. The entire first floor is nearly 2,300 square feet, which accommodates the entire event space. Overall, it is simply charming, warm & friendly. If you’re interested in viewing the property, Corrine will be available to take you on a guided tour.

We are a 'Green' Building
During the early stages of the renovations, we’ve splurged and have decided to use geo-thermal energy to heat & cool the entire 6,000 square foot house (including a finished basement) – using the earth’s natural resources to do so. Even though the house is a vintage style – it is also a ‘state of the art’ building using clean-energy. We’re taking part in keeping our environment clean & it helps in keeping our energy costs to a minimum.
