Tiffany Juliet House residing at 82-84 Naubuc Avenue, Glastonbury, Connecticut was originally built as a single family residence in 1865 by a prominent Welles family. This house was noted in the history archives as the childhood home for Harriet Welles (Turner Burnham’s) whom donated the Town of Glastonbury library. There were several Welles family residences in Glastonbury during the mid-to-late 1800’s including Gideon Welles, United States Secretary of the Navy (during President Abraham Lincoln & Andrew Johnson’s administrations). In the early days of Glastonbury (in the 1600’s) Naubuc Avenue was the original main street in the town, which travels along the Connecticut River.
The house is located in a National Historic District entitled “Curtisville”. The house was quality built & is currently over 160 years old. The original staircase in the house was built by the shipbuilders. They were known for their craftsmanship & attention to detail, so it’s no surprise that the staircase was well-made. Featuring a beautiful bay window with an added second story to it. As the years proceeded, the house became an inn for sailors (shipbuilders) to reside; while they built ships nearby at the NAP Brothers Furniture Company’s building (formerly Connecticut Arms & Manufacturing Company circa 1850’s) located at 122 Naubuc Avenue, Glastonbury.
